A series of cleanliness programs on the occasion of World Earth Day in 2025

In conjunction with World Earth Day, which falls on 22-04-2025, a series of environmental cleanliness programs focusing on water sources have been planned to be implemented under the instructions of the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Hadabima Authority, Mr. R.D. Siripala.

Accordingly, the same main program was successfully held on 22-04-2025 at Moragolla, near the Mahaweli River, in the Galatha Grama Niladhari Division of the Udapala Divisional Secretariat Division, under the guidance of the Executive Director A.M.W. Thilakaratne and the supervision of the Deputy Director (Development) Kanishka Kahapola, Assistant Director (Agriculture) Nimal Thilakaratne and Upul Jayathilake, Janaka Ariyaratne, Jan Bogoda (Regional Manager) and A.M.Rathnayake (Unit Manager). The event was attended by about 100 people, including the Assistant Divisional Secretary of Udapalatha, the Assistant Director (Forest and Environment) of the Mahaweli Authority, the Udapalatha Pradeshiya Sabha, several officials representing the state sector, a group of students from the University of Peradeniya, the farming community in the areas of Tambarigala, Udagama Pallegama, Dunukeulla and the staff of the Sri Lanka Hadabima Authority.

Through the Shramadana program, it was possible to separate and remove about 600 kilos of non-biodegradable waste including polythene, plastic, glass bottles that had been disposed of improperly. These materials were classified and properly disposed of at the designated location with the support of the Udapalatha Pradeshiya Sabha. Furthermore, a notice board was installed to inform the public to refrain from improper disposal of waste and separate garbage bins were also placed. In line with these guidelines, programs were implemented in Udunuwara Divisional Secretariat Division in Kandy District, Ridhimaliyadda Divisional Secretariat Division in Badulla District, Pelmadulla Divisional Secretariat Division in Ratnapura District and Yatawatta Divisional Secretariat Division in Matale District.
