In line with National Environment Week, the tree planting program, implemented by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation in coordination with the Walapane Divisional Secretariat, was successfully carried out on 2026-06-05 in the Belivul Oya area of the Serupitiya Grama Niladhari Division in the Walapane Divisional Secretariat Division, in land areas on both sides of the Oya river that were damaged due to excessive silt deposition and soil erosion. During this, efforts were made to plant 100 Kumbuk saplings and 100 Mee saplings on both sides of the river. For this, the Walapane Assistant Divisional Secretary, the Land Utilization Officer, Lahiru Madhusankha, the Unit Manager of the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation, all officials of the Serupitiya Grama Niladhari Division, officers of the Agriculture Section of the Divisional Secretariat, all Development Officers of the Field Section, and villagers participated. In line with World Environment Week, on 2026-06-03, on the occasion of Water Resource Conservation Day, a short awareness program on water resource conservation, water saving, and prevention of water pollution was conducted in the Serupitiya Grama Niladhari Division of the Walapane Divisional Secretariat.
